Pedro Pascal Teases Joel’s Fate In ‘The Last Of Us’ Season Two

According to ComicBook, Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian, Narcos) teased about his characters fate for season two of The Last of Us. Pascal said Joel’s future may be different than what transpired from the game the show is adapted from. Joel Miller’s (Pascal) death in The Last of Us Part II is one of the biggest moments in the entire franchise, and many fans wondered if Pascal’s portrayal will be the same in The Last of Us show.

According to ComicBook, in an interview with Deadline, Pascal responded to the fans questions.

“I think that they’re always going to find ways to build on the incredible source material that they have, and surprise us with how they can use that material in a different format, like a television show,” Pascal said. “But I wouldn’t want to spoil it for anybody, and the truth is, I don’t actually have all of the information, as of yet.”

Pascals comments come after The Chief Executive Officer of HBO, Casey Bloys (Less Than Perfect), said the show will be accurate to the Naughty Dog game. This is a conflicting statement to The Last of Us show-runner, Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, Identity Thief), who said that the producers aren’t against creating their own story that separates the show from the video game.

“This should be fairly obvious to anyone by now, but I don’t fear killing characters,” Mazin said. “But the important thing to note is that neither Neil [Druckmann (Uncharted series), who co-created and exec-produces the series with Mazin] nor I feel constrained by the source material. I’m never gonna say there are things that are gonna happen in the show that happened in the game. You never know what we’re gonna do. But I will say that it is the adventure, the journey is the point. There are things that will shock people, things that were in the game, things that were not in the game, and that’s okay. As long as they’re purposeful, they’re not there to just simply shock. We are not interested in creating social media fear. We just want to tell the story the way we think it should be told.”

Mazin added via Comicbook, “Will there be furor? Yeah, probably. I mean, there usually is, starting even with casting. We knew they were the exact right person to cast and they had to go through quite a few months of people being awful on social media until they saw what we saw. That, to me, is the point. We don’t operate to either make people happy on social media or avoid making them upset. We just do what we think is right, and we hope that people come along for the ride and enjoy it.”

According to ComicBook, there is no further information about The Last of Us at this time.
