Peacock’s ‘Dr. Death’ Season Two Adds Mandy Moore to Cast

According to Deadline, singer-songwriter and actress Mandy Moore (A Walk to Remember, Tangled) is joining the cast of Dr. Death for its second season on Peacock. She will be starring as the female protagonist alongside Edgar Ramirez (Gold, Point Break). This will be her first time acting after fulfilling her role as Rebecca Pearson on NBC’s six-season series This Is Us, which landed her several nominations for the Emmys, the Golden Globes, and the People’s Choice Awards.

Dr. Death is an anthology series based on a Wondery podcast, which has also inspired the series Twin Flames on Hulu which Moore will reportedly star in and executive produce.

Season two of Dr. Death will bring the “Miracle Man” story from the Wondery podcast’s third season. Ramirez is set to play renowned surgeon Paolo Macchiarini, nicknamed the Miracle Man. Moore will star as Benita Alexander, an investigative journalist writing about Macchiarini. The season will be centered around their relationship as it crosses from professional to something more intimate. While falling for him, she discovers secrets that Macchiarini will go to several lengths to keep hidden. Meanwhile, there will be a group of doctors with enough evidence to question everything the world knows about Paolo Macchiarini.

While Patrick Macmanus (The Girl From Plainville, Marco Polo) was the showrunner for season one, he will step down to executive producer under Littleton Road Productions and Ashley Michel Hoban (Happy!, UnChartered) will serve as the showrunner, writer, and producer of the second season.

Moore’s This Is Us costar Jennifer Morrison (House, Once Upon A Time) will be joining the team as the director of episodes one through four, and director Laura Belsey (The Walking Dead, American Horror Story) will be responsible for episodes five through eight.

Moore has various upcoming projects in development under a pod deal partnership between her production company Roll With The Punches and 20th Television. In May, Moore released her seventh music album, titled In Real Life. She is affiliated with representatives Gersh, Untitled Entertainment, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
