NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock has officially confirmed when their long-awaited Saved By The Bell reboot will finally arrive on the platform, Variety reports. The entire first season will be available to stream on November 25th, as reported by Variety.
Many of the original cast members will reportedly reprise their original roles as adults; Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Franklin & Bash, Raising the Bar), Tiffani Thiessen (White Collar, Alexa & Katie), Mario Lopez (Access Hollywood, Pacific Blue) and Elizabeth Berkley (Showgirls, Last Call) are all returning for this contemporary single-cam reimagining, according to Variety. The high school setting, meanwhile, will be populated by new group of young characters, some of whom are actually the offspring of the original characters. For example, according to Variety, Mitchell Hoog (Harriet, The Wrong Stepmother) is reportedly playing “Mac Morris,” the son of Zack and Kelly Morris (Gosselaar and Thiessen), and Belmont Cameli (My Evil Stepdad) will play “Jamie Spano,” son of Jessie Spano (Berkley).
Tracey Wigfield (30 Rock, The Mindy Project, Great News) is the showrunner for Peacock’s Saved By The Bell reboot. One scriptwriter of note on the new series is Dashiell Driscoll (NCIS: Ibiza), whose involvement was reported by TV Line. Driscoll created Funny Or Die’s popular found footage web series Zack Morris is Trash, which provided satirical commentary on Saved By The Bell.
Gosselaar found out about Driscoll’s series a few years back and, according to an interview in Variety, he quickly became fan: “Had I thought of Zack Morris is Trash I would have been very proud of that take on it because I think that’s an original take.” Gosselaar reached out to Driscoll to do a Saved By The Bell recap podcast that “didn’t feel like the current ones out there,” as reported by Variety. In the summer of 2020, Gosselaar and Driscoll launched the Zack to the Future podcast. Gosselaar told TV Line that Driscoll’s work on Zack Morris is Trash influenced some of the writing on Peacock’s Saved By The Bell reboot: “Some of that is in [the revival]… Zack Morris… sort of not being on the right side of things.”
All four seasons of the original Saved By The Bell, as well as the late 80’s junior high sitcom Good Morning, Miss Bliss are available to watch in full with ads on Amazon Prime. The spin-off series Saved By The Bell: The College Years and the two made-for-TV movies, Saved By The Bell: Hawaiian Style and Saved By The Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas are already available to watch on Peacock TV.
