Peacock Cancels Both ‘One of Us is Lying’ and ‘Vampire Academy’

According to Deadline, Peacock has just decided to cancel the young adult drama shows, One of Us is Lying and Vampire Academy. One of Us is Lying ran for two seasons while Vampire Academy has concluded after only one.

As written by Deadline, Peacock was purportedly very happy with both shows creatively but that neither series was able to find a strong enough audience to justify exploring further seasons. One of Us is Lying premiered back in October of 2021 and was the first Peacock pilot to go to series while Vampire Academy was given a straight-to-series order and premiered in early September of 2022. Both shows are projects from Universal Studio Group.

One of Us is Lying is based on Karen M. McManus’ (Two Can Keep a Secret, The Cousins) hit novel of the same series and came from showrunner Erica Saleh (Wisdom of the Crowd, Instinct), who adapted the book and wrote the pilot episode script. The series tells the nail-biting story of four drastically different high schoolers who must grapple with suspicion and conspiracy when the four students witness the death of their mutual enemy during detention. The series boasts the acting talents of stars such as Annalisa Cochrane (Cobra Kai, The Young and the Restless), Barrett Carnahan (Cruel Summer, Alexa & Katie), and Mark McKenna (Wayne, Overlord). As written by Deadline, UCP is currently exploring other options to continue the series.

Vampire Academy is based on the book series by Richelle Mead (Frostbite, Bloodlines) and comes from Julie Plec (the Vampire Diaries franchise, the Scream franchise) and Marguerite MacIntyre (Little Fires Everywhere, Kyle XY). Set in a world of privilege and classism, Vampire Academy tells the story of two young women from drastically different economic backgrounds who tirelessly work to complete their education and become members of the royal vampire society. The series includes actors such as Sisi Stringer (Mortal Kombat, Bloody Hell), Andre Dae Kim (Star Trek: Strange New World, the Degrassi franchise), and J. August Richards (Council of Dads, Generation).
