Peacock and Seth McFarlane Sets Cast for ‘Ted’ Prequel Series

Seth MacFarlane (Family GuyAmerican Dad!) has assembled the cast for the upcoming prequel series to the 2012 comedy, Ted, via The Hollywood Reporter. MacFarlane is set to reprise his role as the titular teddy bear, in addition to serving as co-showrunner for the series.

Max Burkholder (ParenthoodThe Land Before Time), Scott Grimes (American Dad!The Orville), and Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why) will star alongside MacFarlane in the series.

Set in 1993, Ted will follow the teddy bear after his claim to fame has passed with his 16-year-old best friend, John Bennett, who lives in a suburban Boston home with his family and cousin. Although Ted is not the best influence on John, he is always ready to go to bat for his friend and family when it comes down to it.

Burkholder will play John, who was previously played by Mark Wahlberg (Daddy’s Home) in the 2012 and 2015 films. Whigham will play Blaire, John’s cousin who is an outspoken and politically correct college student living with her Uncle Matty and John. Blaire often clashes with her traditionalist family in Boston. Grimes will play Matty, John’s father and a blue-collar Bostonian who does not like to be challenged, especially by his liberal niece, Blaire.

MacFarlane created the series following a conversation with NBCUniversal, and the series was ordered straight-to-series. He will write, direct, and executive produce all 10 episodes of the series. Paul Corrigan (Modern Family) and Brad Walsh (Mordern Family, King of the Hill) will also write for the series in addition to serving as co-showrunners.

A release has not been confirmed for Ted.
