The highly acclaimed DC series, Peacemaker, has just received a major update from series creator James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, Creature Commandos). According to Comicbook, the show follows the journey of Peacemaker, aka Chris Smith, played by John Cena (The Blockers, Jackpot!), who joins a secretive black ops team named “Project Butterfly” to destroy alien parasites from spreading. Returning members that will join Cena include Freddie Stroma (Pitch Perfect, Extraterrestrial) as Adrian aka Vigilante, Jennifer Holland (Brightburn, Bones) as Emilia, and Danielle Brooks (A Minecraft Movie, The Color Purple) as Leota.

According to Comicbook, Gunn released a teaser post on his official X page, giving a glimpse into the action the second season will hold with the caption, “Counting the days until Peace on Earth. I just finished the DI & Mix on the Season Premiere yesterday and wow it’s one of my favorite things ever. DC Studios’ #Peacemaker Season 2 coming soon only on @StreamOnMax August 21.”

The new season will also bring new faces to the show, which will include Sol Rodríguez (Grachi, Devious Maids) as Sasha Bordeaux, Brey Noelle (Replicator, The Wedding Arrangement) as Batman villain White Rabbit, and Tim Meadows (Grown Ups, Mean Girls). According to Comicbook, in addition to Peacemaker, Max will soon feature new seasons of The Last of Us, The Gilded Age, and Hacks, all featured in a new sizzle reel. We also see brief looks into new original series such as It: Welcome to Derry and Duster. With an impressive line-up of shows and seasons on the horizon, this will be a productive year for HBO, Max, and DC Studios and will surely bring in new viewers. View the reel below.

According to Comicbook, Peacemaker’s second season will contain the same wonderful blend of comedy and action that made the show memorable. While waiting for the second season to release, the entire first season of Peacemaker is available to stream on Max.
