Paul Haggis, Warren Leight, and Gideon Raff are Bringing Two New Dramas to NBC

NBC is getting ready to buff up their programming with two new dramas from the former writer and director of Homeland Gideon Raff, and two time Oscar winner Paul Haggis.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC has committed to producing a pilot for a new drama series written and executive produced by former Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight, which will be directed by Paul Haggis. The new drama, entitled Salvation, will be set on “Fourth of July weekend. A summer storm unexpectedly intensifies and changes track to New York Harbor. Power goes out. Flood waters rise. Most Brooklyn hospitals are forced to evacuate. With few doctors on call, and without any warning, the recently downsized Our Lady of Salvation now becomes the borough’s last viable trauma center. Salvation, the first real-time hospital ‘extreme event’ drama, will capture the life-and-death choices nurses, PA’s and other front line caregivers make as they struggle to provide care and triage.” Haggis, who proved his directing and writing prowess with the Oscar award winning film Million Dollar Baby, combined with the years of experience Leight has with handling and running a drama series, means that audiences can predict a quality source of entertainment from Salvation that should deliver on all fronts. Haggis has also recently garnered acclaim and success for the HBO limited series Show me a Hero, starring Oscar Isaac, which he directed.

NBC is also set to develop a new series from Homeland’s Gideon Raff which will be based upon the best selling book Waking Lion by Ayelet Gundar-Goshem. The project is described as a “edge of your seat thriller” which centers around a Beverly Hills doctor who accidentally kills a pedestrian while on his way home from work. The doctor decides to flee the scene of the accident but neglects to recover his wallet from the scene of the crash. When the dead man’s wife discovers the wallet she confronts the doctor at his home, and decides to blackmail him for something more than money that will shatter his life and send him into a world of deception and darkness that he is unprepared for. Matters go from bad to worse when the doctors wife becomes the lead investigator in the hit and run case.

There is no word yet on when either series will make its debut on NBC, but rest assured that Salvation and Waking Lions will bring audiences the drama they crave as Raff, Haggis, and Leight have already proven they are capable of producing intense and dramatic stories that leave audiences wanting more.
