‘Patriot’ Renewed for Season 2 on Amazon

The Amazon drama series Patriot is officially getting a sophomore season, according to a report by Variety on Tuesday. The pilot episode premiered on Amazon in November 2015. Created by Steven Conrad, the first season of Patriot premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival/European Film Market.

The spy-satire series, is a drama/comedy starring Australian actor Michael Dorman as John Tavner, an intelligence officer who goes undercover as a mid-level employee at a Midwestern industrial piping firm. After mistakenly killed a male hotel maid instead of the physicist who was his intended target, John is ashamed and looking to disappear. With a congressman brother and a father who is State Department director, John is given a new mission: to live undercover in a Midwestern town, all in order to prevent Iran from going nuclear. The Tavner family and Wisconsin residents is composed of an all-star cast, including Terry O’Quin (Lost), Michael Chernus (Orange is the New Black), as well as Kurtwood Smith (That 70s Show). The cast also features Kathleen Munroe (Alphas)  and Hana Mae Lee (Pitch Perfect).

The pilot episode of Patriot originally premiered as part of Amazon’s 2015 fall pilot season along with comedies One Mississippi, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Highston, as well as Z: The Beginning of Everything starring Christian Ricci, all which were picked up to season by Amazon. The first season of Patriot premiered on Amazon on February 24. With it’s second season renewal, it joins other Amazon drama series Bosch, Castastrophe, Goliath and Sneaky Pete in the 2018 season.

Executive producer/showrunner Steven Conrad has not only written, but also directed the majority of the episodes. Conrad previously adapted the screenplays for feature films The Pursuit of Happyness and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Look for the upcoming 2017 film Wonder starring Julia Roberts, Owen Wilson, and Jacob Tremblay, which Conrad adapted from a book series from R.J. Palacio.
