Patrick Somerville to Write Emma Stone-Jonah Hill Netflix Series ‘Maniac’

Director Cary Fukunaga’s (Beasts of No Nation, True Detective) Netflix series Maniac has found its writer.

According to Deadline, Patrick Somerville (The Leftovers, The Bridge) will write the half-hour series. Maniac stars Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, making for a mini Superbad reunion. The series has a 10-episode straight-to-series order with Netflix, and is produced by Paramount TV and Anonymous Content.

Maniac, based on a 2014 Norwegian television series starring comedian Espen Lervaag, follows Hill and Stone as mental patients who live in fantasy worlds to break away from the confinement of their mental institution. Considering the series has just found its writer, it looks like the premiere of the show is still a little ways away.

The series is executive produced by Fukunaga, Stone, Hill, Michael Sugar, Doug Wald, Kruke Kistiansen, Anne Kolbjornsen, Espen PA Lervaag, Kjetil Indegard, and Ashley Zalta.
