‘Paris Has Fallen’: From Action Films to Thrilling TV Series

The popular action movie franchise “Has Fallen,” which is well-known for movies like “Olympus Has Fallen” and “London Has Fallen,” tells the story from the viewpoint of Mike Banning, who is protected by the President of the United States and is portrayed by Gerald Butler (How to Train Your Dragon). Variety reports that the new Paris has Fallen series has been introduced at this year’s London TV Screening by Studiocanal (Back to Black). The screening will run from Monday, Feb. 26 through Friday March 1.

“Paris Has Fallen’s ambition, scale, and production values that I haven’t seen in so many series,” says Anne Chérel, EVP of Studiocanal via Variety. While there remain some unanswered questions concerning the television series, Tewfik Jallab (Paradise Beach) will portray Vincent Taleb, member of a security detail tasked with defending powerful politicians. “Paris itself is another “key selling point,” according to Chérel via Variety. The majority of the series is set in “the glamorous Paris we love in France and internationally, that of the Haussmann boulevards, but the series shows the city in all its diversity,” considering that much of it is set in a world of elite political circles.

Variety reports that the production team’s biggest obstacle is figuring out how to adapt the action thriller into an eight-hour television show. Hans Herbot (The Treatment) and Oded Ruskin (Absentia) will serve as the show’s principal directors. The series will be written by Howard Overman, who has built a career displaying the character’s humanity, such as his 2010 best series winner “Misfits” or “War of the Worlds” which has run for three seasons.

Overall, Paris has Fallen marks as the first television series within the franchise, and expanding the their reach. There has been no confirmation of Butler’s involvement in the series, but their is a possibility of his character making a cameo.
