Paramount+ Set to Launch New Korean Sci-fi Drama Series ‘Yonder’ in April

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming Paramount+ Korean sci-fi drama series, Yonder, is slated to launch globally next month on April 11. The series is the first local production under Paramount Global’s calculated partnership with CJ ENM, the premiere Korean entertainment conglomerate.

Yonder tells the story of Jae-hyun, played by Shin Ha-kyun (Beyond Evil, Soul Mechanic), a grieving widow who receives a message from his late wife, Yi-hoo, played by Han Ji-min (Resurrection, Our Blues), who died from a mysterious illness. Yi-hoo’s cryptic message is an invitation to a world called “Yonder,” which is structured by the memories she had when she was alive. According to the show’s plot description, “Jae-hyun goes to Yonder and reunites with Yi-hoo again. But can they be together forever?”

Yonder will also include the acting talents of stars like Lee Jeong-eun (Parasite, Missing: The Other Side) and Jung Jin-young (Police University, Love in the Moonlight). The show will be directed by Lee Joon-ik (King and the Clown, The Book of Fish) and produced by both CJ ENM and and Doodoong Pictures.

The upcoming series will debut exclusively on Paramount+ to U.S. audiences, as well as viewers in its international markets of the U.K., Canada, Latin America, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Switzerland, and Austria. The streaming service will also provide a feature collection of CJ ENM-produced Korean thriller and mystery dramas to these same markets in tandem with the release of Yonder on April 11.

As written by The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount+’s decision to begin featuring more Eastern content came to a head last year when the streamer launched in South Korea by partnering with the CJ ENM streaming service known as TVING. Paramount also revealed a second local production as part of its deal with CJ ENM and TVING, a series entitled Bargain, which launched on TVING in October of 2022 and will be released exclusively on Paramount+ worldwide this summer.
