Paramount+ Cancels and Removes ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’

The first season of the musical series titled Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies premiered in April on Paramount+. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series was not renewed for a second season. Even further, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies along with three other shows, will be removed from the platform during the last week of June. The decision to remove these titles came about shortly after the announcement that Showtime will be integrated with Paramount+.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is a prequel to the film Grease. More specifically, the events of the series take place in 1954, which is set four years earlier than the film. The series revolves around four misfits who form a clique known as the “Pink Ladies,” which changes their high school forever.

The four main stars include Marisa Davila (Super Giant Robot Brothers, Holidate) as Jane Facciano, newcomer Cheyenne Isabel Wells as Olivia Valdovinos, Ari Notartomaso (Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin) as Cynthia Zdunowski, Tricia Fukuhara (Queen Pins, Noggin Knows) as Nancy Nakagawa.

Other stars of the show include Shanel Bailey (The Book of Mormon, The Equalizer) as Hazel, Jason Schmidt (FBI: Most Wanted) as Buddy, Madison Thompson (Ozark, Emergency) as Susan, Johnathan Nieves (Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, See You Yesterday) as Richie, and more. For some, such as Wells, Notartomaso, and Schmidt, the first season of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies was one of their first larger acting roles.

Creator Oakes spoke out about the decision to remove the series from Paramount+. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oakes wrote in an Instagram story stating, “The cast, my creative partners, and I are all devastated at the complete erasure of our show.”

She continued to thank the fans of the show for all of their support by stating, “I’ve loved your art, your tik toks, and even and especially your wild fan fic and ships.”

Fans of Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies are urged by Oakes to continue streaming the show before it is removed from Paramount+ in the next week.
