Over 1 Million Fans Sign Petition For Season 8 Remake of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’

Just yesterday, Game of Throne fans — about 1.09 million to be exact — have official launched a campaign on Change.org, with the goal of convincing the creatives involved in the series to completely re-do its ground breaking last season. Just in time before the series finale, which is airing later today at 9/8c on HBO.

Expressing that “this series deserves a final season that makes sense,” and HBO should subvert audiences expectations, signatories aim to persuade the series to remake of the last season completely. A bold move considering several of the creative forces behind the series have expressed their desire to move beyond the years long project.

The unknown ringleader who started the petition, criticized series’ creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss as being “woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on.” After an additional plea was posted saying: “Let’s get to 1,500,000!” An increasing amount of signatures continued to fly in.

Among the passionate viewers adding their signatures to the petition, some have expressed “reading the books would given them a more satisfactory conclusion,” while others mentioned that “the show was ruined” by Benioff and Weiss, encouraging them to make amends.

But instead of a complete season rehaul which is highly unlikely, GoT fans can look forward to other iterations of the series being made, based on recent reports surrounding possible spinoffs. George R.R. Martin even commented on the future of the series’ universe:

We have had five different GAME OF THRONES successor shows in development (I mislike the term “spinoffs”) at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely. The one I am not supposed to call THE LONG NIGHT will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer.

Maybe fans should wait and see the series’ official conclusion before deeply criticizing its direction, which stands in stark contrast with the dedicated other viewers who have been watching the series in record droves consistently — with last week’s episode having a linear audience of 12.5 million alone.
