Orange is the New Black: An upcoming Netflix original series

Millions of Americans know Netflix. The company provides for the public’s every movie and television watching needs from the rental of DVDs (no return date or late fees) to the instant streaming of thousands of movies and TV shows. Members can stream the videos to their computer, wifi-connected television, gaming system (Wii, Xbox, etc.), or mobile device.

Recently, Netflix has expanded its services to produce their own original series. The company released the political drama House of Cards along with the wildly popular supernatural drama, Hemlock Grove. Instead of airing one episode per week like most shows, Netflix opted to release the first season of these shows (13 episodes) all at once and all of which are available exclusively on Netflix.

Now, Netflix has announced the release of a new original series. Vulture reveals Orange is the New Black is an adaptation of Piper Kerman’s memoir My Year in a Women’s Prison. The show will follow Piper (played by the Lucky One’s Taylor Schilling) as she is arrested for her involvement with a drug runner (played by That 70s Show’s Laura Prepon). In the women’s prison she will be exposed to a completely new culture and difficulties in this upcoming dramedy.

Netflix announced that show is set to be released this summer on July 11. As in all of Netflix’s previous series, Orange is the New Black will have 13 one-hour long episodes that will all be released at once, allowing the viewers to watch it at their own pace. Orange is the New Black will, of course, be available for viewing exclusively on Netflix. Don’t miss it.
