‘Orange Is the New Black’ Earns GLAAD Awards

The Netflix series was crowned the best comedy series by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The announcement came Saturday during the second half of the 25th annual Media Awards in New York. The annual awards fund the organization’s effort to bring stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and issues to Americans.

Orange Is the New Black co-star Laverne Cox accepted the honorary award from the LGBT watchdog group during the first half of the awards in Los Angeles in April. She was joined on stage to accept the award for outstanding comedy series with her co-stars Laura Prepon, Natasha Lyonne, Samira Wiley, Dascha Polanco, Selenis Leyva, Yael Stone, Taryn Manning and Alysia Reiner.
