Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and Emma D’Arcy to Star in ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Series ‘House of the Dragon’

The upcoming prequel series for the HBO smash hit Game of Thrones, entitled House of the Dragon, has announced the casting of Olivia Cooke (Me Earl and the Dying Girl), Matt Smith (The Crown), and Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The prequel series is set in the same story world as Game of Thrones as created by the novel series George R.R. Martin. House of the Dragon will center on the narrative from the novel Fire & Blood and follows the lives of House Targaryen three centuries prior to the parent series. The series is created by Martin and Ryan Condal (Rampage) and its first season will consist of ten episodes. 

House of the Dragon has previously announced that the HBO prequel series will star Paddy Considine (Hot Fuzz) as King Viserys Targaryen. The addition of D’Arcy will see the actress portray Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the first-born child of the King. Smith will play Prince Daemon Targaryen, the younger brother of the King and the heir to his throne. Furthermore, Cooke’s casting will have the actress portray Alicent Hightower, the daughter of the Hand of the King, via The Hollywood Reporter

The HBO series will see Martin and Condal in addition to Miguel Sapochnik (Game of Thrones), Ron Schmidt (Watchmen, Sin City), Sara Lee Hess (House), and Vince Gerardis (Jumper) in an executive producer role. Currently, the premiere date for the fantasy drama prequel series has not been announced yet.
