NYCC: ‘LOTR: The Rings Of Power’ Surprises In First Panel, Reveals New Season Finale Trailer For Prime Series

This past weekend Amazon Prime’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power made its New York Comic Con debut with an hour-long panel on the convention’s Empire Stage, via an Amazon press release. Fans of the new record-breaking series got exclusive behind-the-scenes details from cast members, saw an exclusive clip from the series season finale, and were the first eyes to witness the brand-new finale trailer. View it below.

The new trailer – two minutes long – recaps the events of the season thus far before diving into a preview of what will befall our beloved characters in the battle for the Southlands. Based on the lore in J.R.R. Tolkien’s novels, Rings of Power explores Middle-Earth years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings saga. Here, the different beings of Middle-Earth exist in peace, assuming a long-dormant evil is no more. But one elf’s premonition comes to fruition as the evil known as Sauron returns with vengeance.

LOTR super fan Felicia Day (Dragon Age, The Guild) hosted the panel that included both the showrunners and several cast members. While J.D. Payne (Star Trek: Beyond) and Patrick McKay (Flash Gordon) were unable to attend in person, the co-showrunners delivered a virtual message from the UK where they are currently set to begin production on the second season. The two divulged some behind-the-scenes secrets and what they’re most looking forward to in the season finale. In addition to the showrunners, the panel included cast members Nazanin Boniadi (Hotel Mumbai), Charles Edwards (The Crown), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (The Accountant), Benjamin Walker (The Choice), Daniel Weyman (Gentleman Jack), Leon Wadham (Golden Boy), and Sara Zwangobani (The Starter Wife).

While hosting the panel, Day announced she would be hosting a companion podcast for the series entitled The Official The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power PodcastThe eight-episode podcast will have Day interview the cast, crew, and showrunners about the intricacies of making the series. All eight episodes will be available on Amazon Music Friday, October 14.

Lastly, fans can extend their love of the series to a new song from The Lord of The Rings: Rings of Power (Season One: Amazon Original Series Soundtrack). Written by profound composer Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica),Where the Shadows Lie” is a new song featuring Grammy-winning artist Fiona Apple (Fetch the Bolt Cutters) available on Amazon Music. The song pulls its inspiration from a poem scribed by Tolkien in the novels. The words were sentiments of the Free People and their experience living under the mighty rule of the One ring. The song will appear in the season one finale.

Episode eight of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power streams on Friday, October 14 at midnight ET only on Amazon Prime Video.
