Nickelodeon’s Revamped ‘Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Premieres on Sept 17

The classic 80s show Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is back as Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in the form of a 2D animated series. It will be available on September 17 on all Nickelodeon platforms throughout over 170 countries. It is co-executive produced by Andy Suriano and Ant Ward and directed by Rob Paulsen. The first episode of this half-hour children’s television series is titled “Mystic Mayhem.” It will follow the Turtles as they find out that they are not the strangest things in New York City.

The series stars Omar Miller who is known for his work on Ballers as Raph, a jagged-shelled snapping turtle. Leo, a red-eared slider turtle is played by Ben Schwartz of Parks and Recreation. Silicon Valley’s Josh Brener plays Donnie, a soft-shell turtle whilst Brandon Mychal Smith of You’re The Worst is Mikey, a box turtle. Kat Graham, a street-smart native New Yorker is played by The Vampire Diaries’ April O’Neil. Eric Bauza of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles plays Splinter who serves as the father figure and teacher to the turtles.  

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles follows the story of Raph, Leo, Donnie and Mikey as they learn and develop their powers whilst fighting insane and ridiculous mutant villains. They must work together in a secret New York deal with each other’s antics in order to become a cohesive unit and fulfill their destiny.

There will be a number of guest stars such as Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) as Big Mama, a gigantic spider mutant; John Michael Higgins (Pitch Perfect) as Warren Stone, a former news anchor turned mutant earthworm; John Rotten Lydon (Public Image Ltd ‘PiL’ and Sex Pistols) as Meat Sweats, a power-hungry mutant pig; and Rhys Darby (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) as Hypno-Potamus, a mutant magician/hippo.
