Nickelodeon and SmartStudy Studios to Create Animated Series for Preschoolers Based on Popular ‘Baby Shark’ Song

Nickelodeon has announced that a Baby Shark animated series aimed at preschool-aged children is in the works. The series was inspired by the hit song that developed into a pop-culture phenomenon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The cable network owned by ViacomCBS will debut a holiday special in December before its regular run starting in spring 2021. Uploaded to the Pinkfong! Kids’ Songs and Stories YouTube channel on June 17, 2016, the song tells the story of shark family and their daily activities, specifically hunting, through the perspective of Baby Shark, Mommy Shark, Daddy Shark and Grandma and Grandpa sharks. Via The Hollywood Reporter, the catchiness of the children’s song sunk its jaws into the pop culture scene and remains the second-most watched video in the history of YouTube with 5.7 billion views.

About the Baby Shark series as told to The Hollywood Reporter, Ramsey Naito, executive vice president of production and development at Nickelodeon Animation said, “Having the opportunity to dive deeper into this incredible world and create all-new storylines has been extremely exciting, and our head of preschool Eryk Casemiro and his team can’t wait to help grow the Baby Shark universe and fanbase with an amazing new series that captures the heart and spirit of this beloved property.”

Baby Shark’s Big Show will be co-produced by Nickelodeon Animation Studio and SmartStudy who represents Pinkfong. The series is set to have 26 half-hour episodes and will follow Baby Shark and best friend William as they have adventures through song in their Carnivore Cove community.

Baby Shark’s Big Show will be executive produced by Gary “Doodles” DiRaffaele and Tommy Sica (Breadwinners), with Whitney Ralls (My Little Pony: Equestria Girls) co-exec producing.
