Nick Stoller Wins Big During 2018’s Pitch Season

Writer, Director, and Producer Nick Stoller, has just recently completed his first broadcast pitch season under the newly brokered deal between himself and Sony Pictures TV. His four comedy projects were all the front-runners and were highly sought after by different studios.

Stoller is known for directing the 2008 raunchy-comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall and its 2010 spin-off/sequel Get Him to the Greek. He also directed the 2014 film Neighbors the 2016 sequel, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising along with the animated film, Storks. He took over for co-writing and executive producing duties for The Muppets and Muppets Most Wanted as well.

Multi-camera Our House, written with Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors), has received a put pilot commitment at CBS while The Story of Us, written by Mike Royce (One Day at a Time), was also picked up by the same network.

CBS’ Our House, follows a devoted father and mother who are committed to raising their children with the love and support the mom lacked during her childhood. But they soon both discover how difficult raising a child is, when her dysfunctional family comes into the picture.O’Brien and Stoller both worked together on the Neighbors movies.

The Story of Us will be told through interviews and vignettes that span over the length of 10 years and follow an unlikely couple who eventually becomes an unlikely family.

Other series that were picked up, one at the ABC network (Common Areas) were written by Hilary Winston (Happy Endings) and Mat Harawitz (LA to Vegas), and single-camera Next Door which was penned with the help of Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley (Uncle Buck)was chosen by the FOX network.

FOX’s Next Door, has been described as a multi-generational comedy about three diverse suburban couples, all at crossroads in their lives, who bond while investigating the murder of the worst person in their neighborhood.

ABC’s Common Areas takes place in cities where rent control has completely gone unregulated and people began to prefer micro-units in luxury buildings instead where they can get just one bedroom for the price of an apartment.
