In the wake of backlash from Nick Cannon’s anti-Semitic comments on his “Cannon’s Class” podcast, the debut of his daytime talk show has been postponed. The news was announced in joint statement from Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury on July 17, according to CNN Entertainment.
Also via the statement provided to CNN Entertainment: “After conversations with Nick, we do believe that his public comments don’t reflect his true feelings and his apology is heartfelt and sincere. We want to continue the healing process as he meets with leaders of the Jewish community and engages in a dialogue with our distribution partners to hear their views.” On top of this, Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury were quick to reinforce their condemnation of anti-Semitism and racially charged hate speech, stating it runs against everything they stand for as a collective.
The statement further expanded on the hope that Cannon would grow from the current issue and entertain audiences through his talk show with a fall 2021 premiere. Early Friday, prior to the statement’s release, Cannon tweeted a response to his apology that he had delivered on Thursday, July 15. The response tweets can be seen below:
