Next on the Revival Horizon: ‘Murphy Brown’

Jumping on the revival bandwagon, CBS has added a 13-show order for 80s classic Murphy Brown. According to The Wrap, star Candice Bergen will once again pickup the shoulder pads to play the title character with her brash feminist attitude.

Series creator Diane English will bring the broadcast team into the cable news era and interesting political climate. Based on its history of 62 Emmy nominations and 18 wins, the revival marks CBS’ first straight to series order for the 2018 pilot season.

Bergen’s character most famously made headlines in 1992 for catching the attention of Vice President Dan Quayle who called Murphy Brown’s morals into question for having a baby out of wedlock. This also lead the show to end an episode by dumping a truckload of potatoes (or is it potatos) on Quayle’s driveway as a slam to the VPs spelling faux pas at an elementary school spelling bee.

Murphy Brown originally premiered in 1988 and ran for 10 seasons.
