‘Newsroom’ Recurring Actress Grace Gummer Joins CBS Halle Berry Drama ‘Extant’

Grace Gummer, recurring actress on HBO series, The Newsroom is joining the cast of Extant.

In the CBS’ Halle Berry Drama, Extant, Gummer will play Julie, one of John’s (Goran Visnjic) principal partners in building robot prototypes like Ethan (Looper’s Pierce Gagnon), John and Molly’s son, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

Gummer, who has appeared in numerous other television shows and films including, American Horror StoryZero Hour, and Smash will join cast members Camryn Manheim, who plays Molly’s best friend, and Dallas Buyers Club, Michael O’Neill, who stars as the director of the privatized space program.

The Steven Spielberg-produced summer drama series Extant is a futuristic thriller about a female astronaut, Molly (Halle Berry), trying to reconnect with her family when she returns after a year in outer space. The character’s experiences lead to events that ultimately change the course of human history.

Greg Walker and Mickey Fisher, who penned the script for the CBS Television Studios and Amblin Television effort, will executive produce the series with Spielberg, Brooklyn Weaver, Justin Falvey, and Darryl Frank. Berry will co-exec produce.

In addition, CBS Television Distribution will handle domestic distribution and CBS Studios International will handle worldwide rights.

Gummer, repped by CAA and Anonymous Content, also recently wrapped indie Jenny’s Wedding opposite Katherine Heigl and Tom Wilkinson.

Extant will premiere July 2 at 9 p.m. on CBS.
