New Video Confirms Second Season of Marvel’s ‘X-Men ’97’

According to ScreenRant, Marvel’s animated series X-Men 97′ is confirmed for a second season after a tweet on February 17, 2023 from voice actor Cal Dodd (X-Men: The Animated Series, Ace Lighting, Spider-Man). Dood will be reprising his role as the rough and tough adamantium beast, Wolverine.

Dood released a sixteen-second video of himself on Twitter in a recording studio, presumably the recording studio of X-Men ’97, with his character’s trademark steel claws. Staying in his character voice Dood says, “Cal Dood here voice of Wolverine from X-Men ’97. The beginning of season two, I say, just the beginning, strap your seatbelts on Bub, later”. Marvel scouts soon found the breach of information and took the official tweet down but fans were still able to capture the message from the time-traveling mutant.

X-Men ’97 is a nostalgic cartoon series rebooting from the original mutant cartoon ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ that aired from 1992 to 1997, hence the title callback. The new show plans on picking up from where they left off in the final episode of the original series with trademark heroes such as Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Beast, Gambit, and of course the founder of the X-Men, creator of Xaiver’s School for Gifted Youngsters, and powerful telepath Charles Xavier. X-Men ’97 is one of Marvel’s many ongoing animated projects and is set to premiere season one on Disney+ later this year. Read More on MXDWN

Marvel working on a second season of X-Men ’97  of before releasing the first one is pretty on brand for them. Ever since they ramped up their projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, more and more new shows are coming out with nostalgic characters making a return to the big screen, including some of the aforementioned X-Men.

Fans have already witnessed the introduction of mutants in the MCU with Patrick Stewart (Charlie’s Angels, Dune, Star Trek: Picard) reprising his blockbuster movie role of Charles Xavier aka Professor X in Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, as well as Evan Peters (Dahmer, Kick-Ass, American Horror Story) reprising his blockbuster role as an alternate version of Quicksilver, brother to the Scarlet Witch and son to Magneto, in the Emmy award-winning series WandaVision. The Scarlet Witch, portrayed by Elizabeth Olsen (Love and Death, Oldboy, Wind River), and Quicksilver, portrayed by Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Bullet Train, Kick-Ass, Godzilla), did make a debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron but weren’t really classified as mutants let alone X-Men.

Lastly, Ryan Reynolds (The Proposal, Green Lantern, Free Guy) and Hugh Jackman (Van Helsing, Les Miserables, The Greatest Showman) are colliding their previous movie roles and returning as bad-mouthing mutants Deadpool and Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Some other X-Men like Colossus might also make an appearance in the film scheduled to release in 2024. In conclusion, a lot more X-Men will be showing up in the MCU whether it’s on the big screen or on the revival series of X-Men ’97.
