According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ali Wong (Big Mouth) is to lead a new Netflix animated series, Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld. The streamer announced that Wong will lead the voice cast of the new series. Wong will be also executive producing the series with Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key) and Echo Wu (The Wishgranter) as showrunner. The series will also cast voice acting from Lucy Liu (Kill Bill Vol.1), Bowen Yang (Isn’t It Romantic), Jimmy O. Yang (Crazy Rich Asians), Lori Tan Chinn (Turning Red), Sheng Wang (Fresh Off the Boat), and Woosung Kim.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in the series, Wong will voice a Chinese American teenager named Jentry Chau who discovers that a demon king is hunting her down while she is living in a small Texas town. This is all to obtain the powers that she has been trying to repress for her entire life. Due to this ,just like many other heroic teenagers, Jentry must learn to balance fighting an entire underworld world of monsters and also fighting the horrors of high school. Although there will be many task’s ahead of her, Jentry will not be facing them alone as she will have help from a weapons expert great aunt as well as help from a millennia-old jiangshi which is also known as a Chinese hopping vampire.
Wong has worked with Netflix on several animated series in the past, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Works include Wong playing Bertie on the adult animated series, Tuca & Bertie, before its move to Comedy Central. Wong has also played characters in series such as Bojack Horseman, Big Mouth, and Human Resources. She has also recently voiced characters on the streamer’s children and family fare with Ask the Storybot and Ada Twist, Scientist.
