Earlier in July, we reported that Doctor Who released its first trailer for their ninth season at Comic Con. But now, fans have another look at the series which will premiere on BBC in September.
Peter Capaldi will return to reprise his role as the Doctor in September and Jenna Coleman will return as Clara Oswald, the Doctor’s companion. Season 9 will feature Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams. According to the showrunner, Steven Moffat, her character is “going to be surprising” (via Variety). In the trailer, Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) tells Maisie Williams’ character, “He hasn’t got a plan yet. But he will have and it will be spectacular”. Moffat also talked about Maisie Williams’ character, “It’s a significant role. We’re not throwing her away. We’re not just getting star value and doing nothing with it. It’s a great part, and she’s terrific in it”(Los Angeles Times). Not much else is known about her character and what role she will take on in the ninth season. The second trailer also shows familiars faces, TARDIS, Daleks, and some new monsters.

In another panel at Comic Con, Moffat also talked about a possible Sherlock and Doctor Who crossover (he is the showrunner for both shows), “I have no problem with the idea of them meeting, it’s all the rest of them [that have a problem], I’d do anything for a laugh and a tart” (via Variety). There might not be a crossover in the works right now, but fans can be excited to catch Maisie Williams’ mysterious and ‘surprising’ character in September.
Doctor Who will return to BBC September 19th.
