Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ Debuts Full Trailer; Reveals Christina Ricci’s Character And Fred Armisen As Uncle Fester

Amidst all the news from last weekend’s New York Comic Con, Netflix dropped the full trailer for its highly-anticipated Wednesday. The new series from Tim Burton (A Nightmare Before Christmas) returns the filmmaker to the world of the Addams Family through the eyes of their daughter played by Jenna Ortega (The Fallout). View the trailer below.

This new iteration of the cooky and spooky family follows Wednesday Addams as she attends a new school, Nevermore Academy. The private institution grooms students who dabble in darker arts than regular reading, writing, and arithmetic. Here, Wednesday flourishes amongst her peers until she uncovers a secret from the school’s past, one that somehow connects to her parents’ tenure as Nevermore pupils.

The trailer shows Wednesday narrating in her deadpan demeanor about a mystery hidden in the shadows at Nevermore. Behind the veneer of scholastic teachings, she uncovers secret societies, hidden passageways, and a murderous monster. The trailer also gives viewers their first look at Christina Ricci’s (Yellowjackets) character, Marylin Thornhill. As the original Wednesday, Ricci’s Thornhill seems to be an employee at the prestigious school.

The trailer also debuted the show’s Uncle Fester played by Saturday Night Live’s Fred Armisen. Rumors surrounded the casting of the beloved character for a while. Onscreen the character was previously personified by Christopher Lloyd in both The Addams Family and Addams Family Values.

The full cast includes Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago) as Morticia and Luis Guzmán (Cleaner) as Gomez, Wednesday’s dotting parents. Isaac Ordonez (A Wrinkle In Time) will play Pugsley, newcomer Victor Dorobantu is Thing, and George Burcea (Closer To The Moon) has been cast as Lurch. Additional castmembers include Gwendoline Christie (Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens), Jamie McShane (How To Get Away With Murder), Percy Hynes White (Edge Of Winter), Hunter Doohan (Where We Disappear), Emma Myers (Girl In The Basement), Joy Sunday (The Beta Test), Naomi J. Ogawa (Skylines), Moosa Mostafa (The Last Bus), Georgie Farmer (Ready Player One), and Riki Lindhome (The Wolf Of Snow Hollow).

Burton’s Wednesday arrives on Netflix on November 23.
