The Netflix Original Series The Witcher was announced by social media platforms including Twitter and Instagram (below) that Netflix has approved the Witcher to continue for a second season. The show is being picked up a whole month ahead of its debut date which is set to premiere on December 20th on the streaming service.

With an overall 8-episodes continuation, filming for the new season will begin in London sometime during the 2020 year and the second season of the show will debut sometime in 2021, according to Deadline. Creator and Executive Producer Lauren Schmidt Hissrich commented on the announcement stating on Twitter “I could not be more proud of what the amazing cast and crew of The Witcher have accomplished, and can’t wait for the world to dig in and enjoy these stories with us.”

The Witcher is based on a series of fantasy novels and short stories written by Polish writer, Andrzej Sapkowski. Over the span of 8 books, the literary saga rose to ultimate popularity after the series was developed as a video game adaptation that was released in 2007 and became highly successful.

Developed with Executive Producers Tomek Baginski, Jason F. Brown, Sean Daniel, Mike Ostrowski, Steve Gaub and Jarosław Sawko. Season 1 of the The Witcher is set to tell the story of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia played by Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) who lives in a place called The Continent where the majority of the story takes place and is filled with a diverse yet tense network between these groups of creatures involving “Human, Elves, witches, gnomes, and monsters” (Screenrant).

Geralt’s journey with other characters in the series include princess Ciri played by Freya Allan (War of the Worlds), a sorceress named Yennefer of Vengerberg played by Anya Chalotra (Wanderlust) and Joey Batey (The White Queen) who plays Geralt’s closest friend, Jasper. Their dynamic within this mystifying world will ultimately further explain the specifics into this fantasy realm of how people think, live and evolve.
