Fans of Netflix’s fantasy drama series, The Witcher, were gifted a brand new trailer for the long-delayed second season. Deadline reports the trailer was included as one of the exclusives revealed during Netflix’s inaugural WitcherCon, an event the streamer organized along with video game developer, CD Projekt Red (Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt). Expanding on the previous seconds-long teaser from a month ago, this peek of the series finds Henry Cavill’s (Justice League, Enola Holmes) Geralt of Rivia finding refuge at his former home, Kaer Morhen. As the world outside finds all creatures battling for supremacy, Geralt is focused on preparing Princess Cirilla, played by Freya Allan (Gunpowder Milkshake, The Third Day) on how to fight her biggest threat: the power that lives within her.
According to Deadline, the trailer was accompanied by a cryptic announcement of all but one of the eight-episode titles. Via a post from Netflix’s Twitter account, the final title was hidden as being “Top Secret,” possibly signaling a spoiler for the season. View the video below for the seven titles revealed.
Originally renewed for season two in November of 2019, this season of The Witcher traversed many obstacles before wrapping production in April. Deadline reports the series halted all production in November of last year as COVID-19 outbreak sidelined several crew members. Filming was stalled a second time when Cavill suffered leg injury. Now, almost two years after the series premiered, the second season will be available to stream Friday, December 17.
The Witcher is executive produced by showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (The West Wing, The Umbrella Academy) according to Deadline. Hissrich is joined by six other executive producers: Sean Daniel (The Mummy Returns, The Expanse), Tomek Baginski, Steve Gaub (Tron: Legacy, Unbroken), Mike Ostrowski (Colony, The Blacklist), Jaroslaw Sawko (Another Day of Life, Wonder Woman), and Jason F. Brown (Ben Hur, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark). Earlier this week, The Witcher universe continued to expand with casting news regarding its prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin.
