Netflix’s ‘Luke Cage’ Debuting New Sneak Peak at Comic-Con

Luke Cage is heading to Comic-Con!

Today Deadline reported that the upcoming Netflix original series, Luke Cage would be making an appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con (which is basically the mother of all comic-cons). Mike Coulter who plays Luke Cage will be at Comic-Con along with his co-stars Alfre Woodward and Theo Rossi. Showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker will also be in attendance. Aside from having some of the cast and showrunners at Comic-Con, there will also be an exclusive sneak peak at the series which premieres on Netflix this fall.

The San Diego Comic-Con runs from July 21-24.

Luke Cage is the third installment on Netflix leading up to The Defenders series. The Defenders will feature Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist (whose individual series is still in the works), and will be sort of a grittier underground version of the Avengers.

Technically we have already seen Coulter play Luke Cage since the character was introduced in Jessica Jones as her boyfriend(?). In the comics, Cage and Jones are married, so obviously we are looking forward to more crossovers with the two characters.

Coulter will star as Luke Cage who, like Jessica Jones, also has superhuman abilities.  After an experiment goes wrong, he gains the abilities of super strength and unbreakable skin. The series will follow Cage as he hides out in Harlem, trying to rebuild his life despite being a fugitive. Of course, this is a superhero story, so his past comes back to haunt him and he must step out of the shadows in order to defend his city.

Mahershala Ali will play Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, one of Cage’s adversaries. Alfre Woddward has been cast as Stokes’ cousin and local politician, Mariah Dillard, who is on a mission to clean up her hometown. Cage’s nemesis, Shades/Alvarez, will be played by Theo Rossi, and Simone Missick has been cast as Misty Knight. We will also see Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, the same role she played in Daredevil, in Luke Cage.

The first season of Luke Cage will hit Netflix on September 30.
