Netflix’s ‘Ginny & Georgia’ Becomes No.1. Streamed Show in the U.S.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix’s teen comedy drama Ginny & Georgia starring Antonia Gentry (Candy Jar) and Brianne Howey (The ExorcistScream Queens) tops streaming charts on Nielsen across the U.S. following the release of its season two. Season two was released almost two years after the initial premier of the show.

Ginny & Georgia follows young, single mother Georgia (Brianne Howey) and her two kids as she moves north for a new beginning and navigates the treacherous path of starting over. The show released its second season the first week of the year on January 5th and according to The Hollywood Reporter , amassed 2.52. billion minutes of streaming for the week of January 2nd to 8th. The series over the course of its two seasons is filled with all things romance, teen angst, family drama, and murder.

The show’s second season follows the same format of ten episodes per season. Its streaming stats succeeding the release has doubled the amount of streaming time of the entire first season. The show originally premiered in 2021. This time around, the creator Sarah Lampert, this show being her breakthrough project, and showrunner Debra .J. Fisher, who wrote for another famous teen TV drama The O.C. , had the story dive deeper into the characters’ past meeting the present carrying lots more anger, confusion, and revenge.

In an interview with Glamour, Lampert goes into some more detail about what was to be expected from season two.  She says, “The stakes are higher and our characters are stripped down to really raw places. We have character pairings you wouldn’t expect, new relationships, and twists and turns you won’t see coming. Season two just hits different.”

The show, which deals with sensitive topics such as mental health, added more depth to how characters deal with those things on a daily in this new season.  In season two, mental health is “front and center, which ends up being the show’s strength,” and what has led to show being applauded, via BuzzFeed.

It has not been announced as to whether not the show will be picked up for a season three with Netflix. The success of Ginny & Georgia follows news of many networks canceling their own shows. Only time will tell if Netflix decides to renew it.

Ginny & Georgia seasons one and two are streaming on Netflix now.
