Netflix’s ‘Dead To Me’ Receives A Second Season Order

Netflix’s Dead To Me is not dead to viewers just yet. The ten episode series, each episode only about a half-hour, left audiences on the edge of their seats. Showrunner Liz Feldman (2 Broke Girls) told The Hollywood Reporter the cliffhanger “[isn’t] exactly what you think it’s going to be.” Feldman will be returning as showrunner as well as central cast members Christina Applegate (Jen) and Linda Cardellini (Judy) according to Variety. The show’s cast also includes James Marsden, Ed Asner, and Brandon Scott.

The premise of Dead To Me is one of female friendship developing under somewhat unusual conditions. Jen (Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini) meet at a grief support group and become fast friends despite their very different outlooks on life. Jen is a sardonic widow set on figuring out the details of her husband’s recent hit-and-run murder while Judy is a footloose and fancy-free type who has also recently suffered a loss of her own.

The show was widely praised by viewers and critics alike. The first season currently holds an 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Following its international launch, it ranked as Netflix’s number one show in the UK, this via Deadline. It is also highly rated on IMDb, where it has earned an audience score of 8.2 out of 10.

The return date has yet to be announced, but an eleventh episode is listed on IMDb, so there is hope for the future. If there’s any indication of when audiences can expect the next season, it would help to look at past announcements regarding the series. Netflix first announced their intention of producing the project in April of 2018 notes Deadline. The show itself premiered about a year and one month later, so that would be an estimate of when viewers can expect season two, early summer 2020.

Dead To Me is currently streaming its full first season on Netflix.
