Netflix has been working on a limited series adaptation of the John Steinbeck (The Grapes of Wrath, Of Mice and Men) novel, East of Eden. Netflix has dropped an official trailer for the series.
For those who don’t know, East of Eden is a story that tells a re-enacts the biblical story of Cain and Abel. Set in farmlands of the Salinas Valley in California, spanning multiple generations from the post-Civil War era to World War I, the story follows two families the Trasks and the Hamilitons and how their destinies are intertwined with each other. The story focuses on the topics of inheritance, generational trauma, and the eternal struggle of good and evil.
In the trailer, we see a character named Cathy, whose voice w also hear in parts of the trailer, she shows up to the Trask household and disrupts the brotherhood of Charles and Adam. Cathy hints at what’s to come in this story by saying this: “Evil is not always apparent at first glance, it can come clocked in goodness, or beauty, or love. The heart of our oldest stories.” It would appear that Cathy is like the apple of Eden, the forbidden fruit that would bring banishment to Adam and Eve in the garden.
