According to Variety, Netflix will launch the South Korean fantasy drama series Arthdal Chronicles worldwide in early June. The series “tells stories of tribal loyalty and power struggles in mythical land called Arth, as it depicts the birth of civilization and nations in ancient times,” Variety reports.
Arthdal Chronicles’ cast is headed by Song Joong-ki (A Werewolf Boy, Descendants of the Sun), Jang Dong-gun (Taegukgi), Kim Ji-won (Descendants of the Sun) and Kim Ok-bin (Thirst, Steal Heart). According to Deadline, Joong-ki (A Werewolf Boy) plays Eunseom, a character who relentlessly fights in order to protect his tribe. Eunseom appears to be innocent, even though he does not hesitate to show his aggressive side when there are imminent attacks. Jang Dong-gun (Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War) plays Tagon, a son of Sanung who is the leader of the Saenyeok Tribe. Tagon is very charismatic and talented and can become really dangerous since he hides his feelings so deeply that no one knows when he will “explode with anger and rage.” Tanya and Taealha, played by Ji-won (Descendants of the Sun) and Ok-bin (Thirst). Tanya is the successor of Wahan Tribe clan mother, who is aware that her destiny is to lead and protect her own tribe against other powerful ones. Taealha is the prettiest lady in Arthdal, and has the strongest lust for power.
The show is directed by Kim Won-seok (Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Misaeng), and written by Kim Young-hyun and Park Sang-yeon, the two award-winning screenwriters of the popular Korean historical period dramas Deep Rooted Tree and Queen Seondeok, Deadline reports.
The 18-episode series was produced by Studio Dragon for Korean broadcaster tvN. It airs from June 1 in Korea on the network. According to Netflix, the show will be aired globally from “early June,” Variety reports.
