Netflix Renews ‘The Kominsky Method’ for Season 3, Will Be Last Season

Netflix has announced that The Kominsky Method will be renewed for a third and final season, eight months after the airing of season 2 on October 25th of 2019, per The Hollywood Reporter. This is the first news of any new season of the series since season 2 has aired. It is unclear why Netflix took such a lengthy period of time to announce season 3 and the coronavirus pandemic has disallowed producers to set a timeline of production for the show, further delaying the arrival of the last season.

The Kominsky Method has won two Golden Globe Awards in 2019: one for Best Television Series and one for Best Actor for the show’s lead, Michael Douglas (Wall StreetBehind the Candelabra). The series has also been nominated for three Emmy’s: Outstanding Sound Mixing For a Comedy or Drama Series (Half-Hour) And Animation, Alan Arkin (ArgoLittle Miss Sunshine) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, and Douglas for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

The Kominsky Method is about Sandy Kominsky (Douglas), an aging acting coach who does not want to retire and forego his fame, even though his acting career has been dwindling for quite a while. The series follows Sandy and his long-time agent and best friend “Norman Newlander (Arkin) [as they] keep each other laughing [and] navigate the ups and downs of getting older” (Netflix).

Chuck Lorre (Two and a Half MenThe Big Bang Theory), Al Higgins (Malcolm in the MiddleBob Hearts Abishola), and Douglas executive produce The Kominsky Method. Says Chuck Lorre, “The Kominsky Method has been a true passion project for me and it’s been an incredible experience to see the warm response from both audiences and critics. I’m excited to wrap up the story with this final chapter” (The Hollywood Reporter).

The Kominsky Method can be streamed on Netflix or can be found on Vudu or Amazon Prime Video starting at $1.99. You can watch the trailer for the first season below:
