Netflix has released a new trailer for Tim Burton’s (The Nightmare Before Christmas) reimagining of The Addams Family titled Wednesday. The upcoming series will be based around the character of Wednesday Addams, played by Jenna Ortega (Stuck In The Middle).
Variety gave a description of Wednesday: “In the spinoff, Wednesday attends Nevermore Academy, where she attempts to master her new psychic abilities and solve a murder mystery connected to her family’s past.”
Starring alongside Ortega in the upcoming series will be Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Mask Of Zorro) as Morticia; Luis Guzmán (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island) as Gomez; Isaac Ordonez (A Wrinkle In Time) as Pugsley; newcomer Victor Dorobantu as Thing; and George Burcea (Closer To The Moon) as Lurch. Other members of the cast include Gwendoline Christie (Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens), Jamie McShane (How To Get Away With Murder), Percy Hynes White (Edge Of Winter), Hunter Doohan (Where We Disappear), Emma Myers (Girl In The Basement), Joy Sunday (The Beta Test), Naomi J. Ogawa (Skylines), Moosa Mostafa (The Last Bus), Georgie Farmer (Ready Player One), and Riki Lindhome (The Wolf Of Snow Hollow). Christina Ricci (Black Snake Moan), who played Wednesday in the 90s film series, will also make an appearance as Marilyn Thornhill.
Alfred Gough (Into The Badlands) and Miles Millar (The Shannara Chronicles) will serve as co-showrunners and writers for the series. They will also serve as executive producers along with Burton, Steve Stark (The Handmaid’s Tale), Andrew Mittman (The Addams Family), Kevin Miserocchi (The Addams Family 2), Kayla Alpert (Petals On The Wind), Jonathan Glickman (The Count Of Monte Cristo), and Gail Berman (Buffy The Vampire Slayer). Burton will direct four of the eight episodes while Gandja Monteiro (She’s A Blur) and James Marshall (Dead Like Me) will also direct episodes.
It is currently unclear as to when Wednesday will release.
