The end of Nick and Charlie’s story is almost here. Netflix has released the first trailer for Heartstopper Forever, the feature film that will bring the popular coming-of-age romance to a close when it premieres on July 17.
According to Deadline, the film will serve as the conclusion to Heartstopper, the hit Netflix series based on the graphic novels by Alice Oseman (Heartstopper, Radio Silence). Rather than returning for a fourth season, the story will wrap up with a feature-length finale centered on the future of Nick and Charlie’s relationship.
In Heartstopper Forever, Nick Nelson, played by Kit Connor (The Wild Robot, Warfare), and Charlie Spring, portrayed by Joe Locke (Agatha All Along, Sweeney Todd), find themselves facing their biggest challenge yet. While the pair have become inseparable throughout the series, Nick is preparing to leave for university, while Charlie begins to find greater independence at school.
As the prospect of a long-distance relationship becomes more real, doubts surface, and the couple must decide how to sustain their relationship as they enter the next stage of their lives. According to Deadline, the film will also continue following the wider friend group as they navigate love, friendship, and the uncertainties that come with growing up.
Since premiering in 2022, Heartstopper has become one of Netflix’s most beloved young adult series. Deadline notes that the show has had a significant impact across television and publishing and has also earned praise for its LGBTQ+ representation.
The series helped launch the careers of several young stars, including Connor, Locke, and Yasmin Finney (Doctor Who, Dream Academy). The film’s cast also includes William Gao (Sunset Grove, Heartstopper), Corinna Brown (The Fades, Heartstopper), Kizzy Edgell (The School for Good and Evil, Heartstopper), Tobie Donovan (Creation Stories, Heartstopper), and Jenny Walser (Call the Midwife, Heartstopper).
Heartstopper Forever is created and written by Oseman and directed by Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice, Colette).
With the trailer now released and the premiere date approaching, fans will soon find out whether Nick and Charlie can make their relationship work as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
