The beloved Netflix series Sex Education will be coming to an end this year on September 21st, with the upcoming fourth season being its very last. According to Deadline, the trailer shows Asa Butterfield’s (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children) character Otis Milburn talking in front of a gathering of college students, saying, “Thinking about sex comes very naturally, because I learned everything I know about sex from my mom.” The reaction from the crowd is no short of horrified.
Returning for the fourth and final season with Asa Butterfield includes Emma Mackey (Death on the Nile), Gillian Anderson (The Pale Blue Eye), Aimee-Lou Wood (The Electrical Life of Louis Wain), Ncuti Gatwa (The Last Letter from Your Lover), Connor Swindells (SAS Rogue Heroes), Mimi Keene (After Everything), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Lovers Rock), Chinenye Ezeudu (The School for Good and Evil), Alistair Petrie (The Cursed), Dua Saleh (Generation), Jim Howick (Yonderland), Daniel Ings (Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?), and Samantha Spiro (Grandma’s House).
Many of the main cast members have already announced to the public that they would not come back for a fifth season of the show, hence the fourth season being the end to the story has not come as a surprise. Emma Mackey said on RadioTimes that the actress had “said goodbye to Maeve.” She also shared that her character will not appear as much in the fourth season as she has taken a step back in the upcoming story.
Other fellow actors are also looking towards their new horizons post-Sex Education, another one of them being Gatwa who will be the new lead by the name of Eric on Doctor Who and will be joining Emma Mackey in the new Barbie movie directed by Greta Gerwig (Ladybird). Along with the many reprising roles this upcoming season, many actors have also left the series. These include Rakhee Thakrar (Rules of the Game), Simone Ashley (Bridgerton), Patricia Allison (Superworm), and Tanya Reynolds (Fanny Lye Deliver’d).
