Netflix has released the official teaser trailer for Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the fourth installment in Ryan Murphy’s (Glee, American Horror Story, Pose) and Ian Brennan’s (Glee, Scream Queens, The Watcher) Monster anthology series. According to ScreenRant, the eight-episode season will premiere on September 17.
Ella Beatty (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Act One, Feud) stars as Lizzie Borden alongside Vicky Krieps (Old, Phantom Thread, Colonia), Billie Lourd (Booksmart, American Horror Story, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker), Joey Pollari (American Crime, Avalon High, Things Like This), Sarah Paulson (12 Years a Slave, American Horror Story, Ocean’s Eight), Jessica Barden (The Lobster, The New Romantic, Far from the Madding Crowd) and Rebecca Hall (The Prestige, The Town, The End of It). Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim, Children of Men) also returns following his portrayal of Ed Gein in the anthology’s third season.
According to the official synopsis, the series follows the repressed daughter of a wealthy New England family and her rebellious maid after they become trapped in a home marked by cruelty. As the pair escape into fantasies of revenge, a series of gruesome murders gives rise to one of America’s most infamous unsolved mysteries.
Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story centers on the real-life 1892 axe murders of Andrew and Abby Borden. Lizzie Borden was tried and acquitted of the killings, though the case has remained unsolved for more than a century and continues to spark speculation.
Created by Murphy and Brennan, the anthology series is executive produced by Murphy, Brennan, Alexis Martin Woodall (American Horror Story, American Crime Story, Pose) and Eric Kovtun (American Crime Story, The Watcher, Love Story).
The anthology series has become one of Netflix’s most-watched English-language originals. Previous installments have explored the lives of Jeffrey Dahmer, Lyle and Erik Menendez, and Ed Gein.
Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story premieres September 17 on Netflix.
