Today on Youtube Netflix released the official theme song for its sequel series A Different World. Singing the theme song was Grammy Award winner Brandy Norwood (Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, Christmas Everyday).
For those who don’t know, A Different World is a series that tells a story that follows Deborah Wayne as she enters her freshman year at Hillman College, the same college her parents went to. It is here where she must escape their shadow and build her own legacy. The original series theme song was sung by Phoebe Snow (Hannah Montana, Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom) for season one. For seasons two through five, Aretha Franklin (Aretha Franklin: Here We Go Again, Blues Brothers 2000) picked up the torch and sung the theme song for the show. For the sixth and final season Boyz II Men (III Town Sluggaz, Marlon) would sing the theme song bringing the series to a close.
According to Deadline, Brandy issued this statement regarding her singing the theme song for this beloved series: “Singing this iconic theme song for A Different World means everything to me. It was one of those shows that I had to watch every time it came on. I remember the song and how it made me feel,” Brandy shared. The original A Different World premiered in 1987 and ran till 1993, following a group of students at a historically Black University and their struggles to make it through college.

Unit, Dream House), Jordan Aaron Hall (Graduation Day, The Idea of You), Kennedi Reece (A Different World, Charged), Aysia Moorer (Straw, Bruh), Johnathan Auguste (American Horror Story, Roommates), Glynn Turman (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, High Horse: The Black Cowboy), Tichina Arnold (The Neighborhood, Crutch), Dawnn Lewis (The Simpsons, Nemesis), and Raven Goodwin (Abbott Elementary, Single Black Female 3: The Final Chapter).
