Netflix unveiled a first-look at the second season of its most-watched show, Bridgerton, according to Deadline. While the debut season followed the Bridgerton family’s efforts to marry off the eldest Bridgerton daughter, Daphne, played by Phoebe Dynevor (Younger), the second season will follow her elder brother, Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey (Crashing), on his quest to find anything other than love in a wife.
The streamer revealed a first-look at the second season of the show at its fan event, Netflix Tudum. As previously announced, the second season will follow the plot of the sophomore book of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novels entitled The Viscount Who Loved Me. The second novel delves deep into Anthony’s idolization of his late father and his hope to find wife to conceive his next heir, under the assumption that he would not live past the year his father did – at 39. Anthony begins courting Edwina, played by newcomer Charithra Chandran, much to the dismay of her protective and head-strong step sister, Kate, played by Simone Ashley (Sex Education), who frequently gets in Anthony’s way.
The debut season’s heartthrob, Simon Basset, played by Regé-Jean Page (For The People), previously reported that he would not be appearing in the show’s second season, however, he did hint in a recent interview that anything can still happen. Still, fans can look forward to Bailey’s Anthony receiving the full spotlight this season, alongside his siblings reviving their roles as Benedict, played by Luke Thompson (Making Noise Quietly), Colin, played by Luke Newton (The Lodge), Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie (Vanity Fair), and Hyacinth, played by Florence Hunt (Cursed).
Bridgerton, which broke records after being watched by 82 million households around the world, was renewed for a third and fourth season at the streamer. Moreover, it is expected that if the series follows similar plotlines of the books, fans will see Benedict and Colin find love after their siblings. In addition, Netflix will release a spinoff series based on Queen Charlotte, played by Golda Rosheuvel (Lady Macbeth). The series will give insight into the feisty Queen’s backstory prior to inheriting the throne.
