Netflix Premieres Trailer for ‘Marvel’s Iron Fist’

Marvel fans rejoice!

Variety has reported that the first trailer for ‘Iron Fist’ has been released by Netflix to be savored by the public or picked apart by the forever surly real life comic-book guy.

Netflix is set to release three different Marvel shows in 2017, including The Punisher, The Defenders, and Iron Fist. The streaming giant has been stoking the fires of comic book fans and binge watchers everywhere by creating original content based on the lesser known characters of the Marvel Universe, like Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, and to an extent Daredevil, where the titular character gained some notoriety when Ben Affleck attempted to play the superhero in the 2003 film. Unfortunately, the film did not do the series or the comic justice.

Finn Jones, oGame of Thrones fame, will be playing the role of Danny Rand, and will star along side Jessica Henwick, who will play Collen Wing, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, David Wenham as Harold Meachum, and Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum. According to Variety, Carrie-Anne Fisher and Rosario Dawson will also reprise their roles from Jessica Jones and Luke Cage.

Iron Fist begins with Danny Rand, who mysteriously reappears at his parent’s company after having disappeared for fifteen years in a horrific plane crash that killed his parents and left him for dead. He comes back with an incredible ability to channel his strength to give him ‘the power of 100 jackhammers‘, much to the chagrin of the nefarious forces of evil that no doubt want to control his company in the wake of his family’s absence. Danny is well-versed in the mysterious arts of K’un L’un, a martial arts practice that gives his fist its mythical strength.

It will be interesting to see if there will be any more crossovers in the Marvel universe with Iron Fist. In the comics, Danny Rand teams up with Luke Cage, formerly known as ‘Power Man’. Netflix has tried to stay true to the comics and does a good job of interweaving characters that spill over from different story lines. For example. Rosario Dawson’s character, Claire Temple, first makes her appearance in Daredevil as a nurse who has to heal the extraordinary wounds of superheroes when Matt Murdock crashes through her window. Then, in Jessica Jones, Claire Temple makes another appearance towards the end of the series. Luke Cage is also introduced as Jessica’s tumultuous love interest. Following that logic, it’s safe to say that we will likely see cameos from Mike Colter popping up somewhere within the 13 episodes.

Jones, as well as Colter and Kristen Ritter will be reprising their roles for the upcoming Defenders series for Netflix. In the meantime, get ready to binge Iron Fist on March 17.
