Netflix Pot Comedy ‘Disjointed’ To Premiere In August

Yesterday was 4/20, providing Netflix the perfect opportunity to join in on the green festivities and announce the premiere date for upcoming pot comedy Disjointed.

According to Deadline, Netflix has set August 25th as the debut for Disjointed‘s 20-episode first season. The series stars Kathy Bates. and was created by former Daily Show head writer David Javerbaum and Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly, Two And A Half Men). Lorre and Bates have worked together before, with Bates appearing in episodes of Mike & Molly and Two And A Half Men.

Disjointed centers on pot legalization advocate Ruth (Bates) as she is able to finally live out her life’s ambition of owning a dispensary. The staff at the Los Angeles-based Ruth’s Alternative Caring includes three oddball “budtenders”, her business savvy son, and a security guard who previously served in Afghanistan. Along with Bates the series stars Dougie Baldwin, Elizabeth Ho, Elizabeth Alderfer, Aaron Moten and Tone Bell.

Netflix gave Disjointed a series order back in July, joining in on the recent rush of weed-related comedies like HBO’s High Maintenance, Amazon’s Highland and NBC’s Buds. In the vain of Lorre’s previous shows, Disjointed will be multi-cam and feature a live studio audience. Netflix has had some success with multi-cam sitcoms so far with Fuller House and the Ashton Kutcher-starring The Ranch. Working with Netflix marks a change for Lorre though, who has a strong history with CBS thanks to the fact that his show’s like The Big Bang Theory practically print money for the network.

Disjointed comes from WBTV and Chuck Lorre Productions. Lorre and Javerbaum executive produce.
