Netflix has given a ten-episode series order to The Imperfects, a new science fiction drama from Private Eyes creator Shelley Eriksen (Flash Point, Traders) and former Ghost Wars writer Dennis Heaton (Motive, Call Me Fitz), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The duo was previously behind the development of the urban fantasy series The Order, which was cancelled by Netflix in November 2020 after two seasons.
The Imperfects reportedly conveys a superhero narrative using the premise of involuntary participation in a nefarious genetic experiment: “Three twenty-somethings… are turned into monsters [and] band together to hunt down the scientist responsible and force him to make them human again,” via The Hollywood Reporter. Heaton will serve as the project’s showrunner, and his co-author Eriksen will executive produce, as reported by Deadline. The pilot is allegedly directed by Mathias Herndl (Wayward Pines, The Twilight Zone), who previously directed episodes of Motive and Ghost Wars, as well as the season one finale of The Order, according to a set picture included in an official Twitter thread from Netflix’s genre fiction sub-account NX:

The remainder of the thread functions as a primer on the series’ main cast of characters. The trio at the core of The Imperfects is comprised of punk singer Tilda Weber, up-and-coming scientist Abbi Singh and comic book artist Juan Ruiz. Tilda is played by Morgan Taylor Campbell (Death of a Cheerleader), whose most recent role is a recurring part on season two of the NBC musical dramedy Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist. Abbi’s portrayer is Rhianna Jagpal (Two Sentence Horror Stories), who, like Campbell, briefly appeared in The CW’s Charmed reboot. Iñaki Godoy (Who Killed Sara?) plays Juan in what is his first English-language performance to date.
Tilda, Abbi and Juan are aided in their efforts by Dr. Sydney Burke (Italia Ricci, Designated Survivor), a scientist eager to atone for her past errors, via The Hollywood Reporter. The series’ primary antagonist Dr. Alex Sarkov will be played by Australian stand-up comedian Rhys Nicholson (Save the Date). In addition to being pursued by the three main characters, Sarkov is also being targeted by Isabel Finch, who is played by Kyra Zagorsky (The 100). The actress had a noteworthy role in an episode of Motive season one that was scripted by Heaton and lensed by Herndl. Celina Martin (The Banana Splits Movie) occupies a supporting role in The Imperfects as one of the trio’s fellow test subjects, although the monster into which she transforms has not been identified at present, Deadline reports.
