Netflix Orders ‘Edha,’ its First Argentinian Original Series

Netflix recently ordered its first original series from Argentina, Variety reports. The 13-part dramatic thriller is titled Edha and was created and directed by film-TV helmer Daniel Burman. Burman is known for his work in New Argentine Cinema including Lost Embrace and Empty Nest.

The series was filmed in Argentina and will begin production in Buenos Aires. Edha will start shooting early next year and debut exclusively on the popular streaming service in 2017. The series was written by Burman, Mario Segade, and the writers’ room at Oficina Burman. Edha is a dramatic thriller that tells a story of dark secrets and overpowering attractions. The show will center on a mother named Edha, who is young fashion designer. Edha struggles to make a decision that will take her to an entire new level in the fashion industry when she meets an attractive immigrant-turned-model. Their reckless passion is mingled with his deep desire for revenge.

Erik Barmack, theV.P. for Netflix’s international original series stated “The fashion and music scene in Buenos Aires is unique, sexy and exciting and Daniel Burman and his team are among Argentina’s most gifted creators.” Adding “We can’t wait to present Edha and her dramatic story to Netflix members around the rest of the world.” Burman also went on to say that Netflix series “have revolutionized the conception of drama. “We must assume that our characters are as ambiguous, complex and inconsistent as we are ourselves. They face moral dilemmas, many times without even knowing it.”

Burman predicts that Netflix will continue to raise the bar in terms of creating Latin American drama series. He described the popular streaming service as “the new paradigm in content consumership it has created, is not so much in how we see the product on its platform as what we see.”

Edha marks the sixth Latin American original series ordered by Netflix.
