Netflix Eyeing ‘House of Cards’ Renewal

The network wants the Emmy-winner show to continue further than its second season.

Just roughly three weeks ago, House of Cards producer Rick Cleveland said he thought the show’s second season was bound to be the last because, in his words, “Kevin Spacey likes to do movies and Robin Wright likes to do movies”, even though both actors seemed to be pretty content with doing the show and not in talks to do any movies any time soon.

Contradicting those words, Netflix’s chief content officer Ted Sarandos said yesterday that “[Netflix’s] intent is that the show keep going for sure. It was a 26-episode commitment but it was not our intent that it just run for two seasons. Talks are in progress right now.”

From Sarandos declarations, it was possible to gather that the network is not ready to let go of its first Emmy-awarded original show.

House of Cards is currently in the last week of production of the second season, which still doesn’t have a premiere date set but should air somewhere in the beginning of 2014.
