Netflix Extends Renewal for ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ to Include Season Three

Netflix is ready to extend the misfortune of the Baudelaire orphans. TVLine has confirmed that A Series of Unfortunate Events has been picked up for its third season.

The renewal news comes after the show was picked up for a second season a little less than a month ago.

This ensures that the third season of the Netflix series will finish out the book series.

Part of the reason the show got renewed for its final two seasons so quickly is to keep the same actress who plays Sunny, Presley Smith, playing the part without looking much older. The character of Sunny Bauldelaire is the baby of the family and it would be too obvious if the actress who is playing Sunny keeps growing older while she’s supposed to be kept the same age. It also allows the actors who play the other two Baudelaire children, Violet (Malina Weissman) and Klaus (Louis Hynes) to continue filming without aging much.

A Series of Unfortunate Events follows the misfortunes of the Baudelaire orphans, whose parents died in a house fire that destroyed their home. The children are sent to live with various members throughout the series while trying to escape from Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris), the villain of the series who is after the three children for their fortune and inheritance. Patrick Warburton also stars as Lemony Snicket, the morose narrator who recounts the misfortunes of the Baudelaires.

Currently, there’s no word as to when the new seasons will be released for streaming on Netflix, but the first season is currently available for streaming.

The second season will consist of 10 episodes and will cover books five through nine (The Austere AcademyThe Ersatz ElevatorThe Vile VillageThe Hostile Hospital and The Carnivorous Carnival). The third season will likely finish out the book series and will cover books 10 through 13 (The Slippery SlopeThe Grim GottoThe Penultimate Peril and The End).
