Netflix Cancels ‘The Baby-Sitters Club’

Five months after the premiere of its sophomore season, Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club has been canceled, according to The Hollywood ReporterThe series debuted in 2021, and is based on Ann M. Martin’s (Kristy’s Big Day) 1980s long-running children’s book series of the same name.

The Baby-Sitters Club centers around five middle-school friends who launch their own babysitting service in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. It received acclaim for its depiction of young friendships, and its modern take on female empowerment.

“I have wanted to be a part of the world Ann M. Martin created since I was 7 years old, and for two amazing seasons I actually got to be,” series creator and showrunner Rachel Shukert (You’re Killing Me) said in a statement, via The Hollywood Reporter. “It was a dream come true. Although I am heartbroken not to be returning to Stoneybrook for 20 more seasons, I am so proud of the incredible show our amazing cast and crew created and the way it brought joy and comfort to so many when they needed it most. Thank you to Walden Media and to Netflix for giving us the opportunity to introduce Kristy, Claudia, Stacey, Mary Anne, Dawn, Jessi, and Mallory to a new generation of fans who I know will love them as much as we do for years to come.”

The series starred Momona Tamada (The Main Event), Shay Rudolph (Lethal Weapon), Xochitl Gomez (Raven’s Home), Malia Baker (Caught in his Web) and Sophie Grace (Terror in the Woods). It was executive produced by Shukert, Lucia Aniello (Rough Night), Michael De Luca (Fifty Shades Freed), Lucy Kitada (Am I OK?), Sascha Rothchild (The Bold Type) and Martin.
