According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has recently announced that the journey of Geralt of Rivia will end with its fifth and final season. The Witcher is a high-achieving Netflix series based on the popular video game franchise and book series that follows the story of Geralt of Rivia also known as the white wolf, The streamer has also shared that the fourth and fifth seasons will be filmed back to back. The fourth season marks the start of Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games, Poker Face) taking over the role of Geralt, originally played by Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Highlander).
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Daredevil, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf), showrunner of the series, said in a statement, “It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s (The Witcher: Blood Origin, Gwent: Rogue Mage) books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the last two seasons of the series will be adapting the three last novels in Sapkowski’s series: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. *Warning series spoilers*. The upcoming fourth season will continue to follow Geralt, Yennefer played by Anya Chalotra (The Cipher, The ABC Murders), and Ciri played by Freya Allan (The Third Day, Baghead), who are now split up after the events of season three. The season will follow them trying to rejoin with one another while leading a group of misfits.
