Deadline has reported that Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother, The Smurfs) will return for the two-episode midseason finale of Hulu’s How I Met Your Father as his character Barney Stinson. It will air at the end of this month. Harris returned as his character from How I Met Your Mother in the second season premiere of HIMYF.
Harris’s character, Barney, is seen at the end of the first episode of the second season, titled “Cool and Chill”, when his car is hit by the main character, Sophie, played by Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire, Younger). When Sophie’s future self is asked by her son, who she is telling the story to, who the guy is, she responds, “We’ll get there soon enough.”
While he only had a minor appearance in the first episode, Barney is reported to have a pivotal role in the finale.
The midseason finale will air on Hulu on March 28 with season two continuing with new episodes every Tuesday from May 23 through July 11.
Harris played Barney on HIMYM for all nine seasons. The series aired on CBS on March 31, 2014. Along with Harris, it starred Josh Radnor (Hunters, Mercy Street), Cobie Smulders (Friends from College, Stumptown), Alyson Hannigan (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, American Pie), and Jason Segel (Shrinking, Forgetting Sarah Marshall).
How I Met Your Father season one aired on Hulu on January 18, 2022. Alongside Duff, the series stars Francia Rasia (The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Grown-ish), Chris Lowell (Veronica Mars, The Help), Tom Ainsley (Serpent, Safe Inside), and Josh Peck (Drake & Josh, Turner & Hooch).
